Labelling error sparks recall of Tesco chocolate cake

A spokesman said: “We have been made aware by our supplier that due to a manufacturing error that a small number of boxes from one date code have been incorrectly packed with carrot cake. ā€‹

“The carrot cake contains walnuts and as such will have the incorrect allergen information on the packaging.”ā€‹

Manufacturing errors such as in theis case, packing the incorrect product into the packaging account for a significant amount of product recalls in the UK. Incorrect allergen declaration is the primary cause for product recalls, and has seen a 62% increase due to the mandatory change in allergen declarations as declared in the Food Information Regulations. As incorrect allergen declarations can lead to prosecution, it is imperative to take advice, and get hte declarations correct.
