Food Labelling Services comments:

Health claims have to be authorised and listed on the Health and Nutrition Claims Register (HNCR) before they can be declared on a pack, and the criteria and wording should comply to those stated in the NHCR.

General, non-specific health claims and are not approved on the Health & Nutrition Claims Register (HNCR). Claims about general, non-specific benefits of a product for overall good health or health-related well-being will only be allowed if they are accompanied by a specific permitted health claim that is authorised on the NHCR. The product would have to meet the conditions of use for the accompanying claim. This is because customers can understand non-specific health claims to mean very different things, so it is important that it is made clear to them exactly what it is that makes the product beneficial to health.

Declaring Health and Nutrition claims can be complicated, so it is always advised to check with an expert - see our website at https://www.foodlabellingservices.co.uk/label-checking/health-claims for further information.
