People do Veganuary for a wide range of ethical and health reasons and there has been a huge veggie and plant based NPD offerings from all the food brands and retailers in January 2020. However, the health claims on these products and behind the plant-based trend are now being scrutinised, and will have to conform to regulations. There is a perception that vegan means healthy, however some of the long ingredients lists and additives used in these products may put some doubts in consumers minds.
There is a focus now on cleaner label products with only 5 or fewer ingredients.
Consumers will need to be educated in a plant based diet to ensure that the diet is balanced, and supplemented, where required with the appropriate vitamins (such as Vitamin B12)
