Defra has confirmed the government does not intend to bring forward the launch date for the UK’s deposit return scheme, despite recent comments by circular economy minister Mary Creagh to roll out a UK-wide DRS for PET bottles and steel & aluminium drinks cn ahead of the October 2027 date proposed in March 2024 by the Conservatives. Defra confirmed Labour was determined to go ahead in line with the schedule set out previously and it will be an united rollout.

Industry has a sign of intent that Labour is committed to the policy and now can concentrate on the task of trying to make that happen.
