Foundation Earth has sent an open letter inviting food environmental labelling schemes to come together to discuss how a harmonised approach can be achieved. This follows efforts to set standards for the environmental assessment of food and drink products, laid out in a joint letter to the European Commission and UK Government.

To address this challenge, Foundation Earth has convened labels including Eco-Score, Planet-score and IGD to a summit in Autumn 2022 in Brussels. The event will explore how the different initiatives can collaborate to deliver an optimum labelling scheme better and faster – and avoiding unnecessary proliferation.

It is important the the consumer is clear as to the message that is being conveyed on the pack. This is why it is imperative that the environmental message is consistent so that consumers can be educated and compare products that use the same information and tracking.
