At Food Labelling Services we are seeing a significant increase in the number of artworks with 'Free From' claims, which is being driven by consumer demand and selective diets. These should always be substantiated with analytical evidene to support the claims that are being declared. Preventative Allergen Labelling (PAL) is another area where we are often asked to comment, but cannot confirm declarations. PAL can be informative, but often, due to a lack of guidance, suppliers list all the allergens as a 'safety net', which threfore makes the declaration meaningless for the consumer. It is good to hear that the government is going to review guidelines for PAL later on this year.
