
UK consumers 'confused' about portion size
According to the results of a survey commissioned by the National Charity Partnership - an initiative backed by Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation and Tesco – while UK consumers are aware of the “five-a-day” message there is widespread confusion over how big a serving actually is.

A standard portion of fruit of vegetables is defined as 80g, 30g of dried fruit or 150ml of fruit juice. The fact that only 25% of the population know this fact shows that the consumer education scheme on 5-a-day has not been understood or accessed by the majority of the public.
The ‘Hands on Healthy Eating’ project will help raise awareness to the members of the public who are interested to go to a roadshow. However, the issue is how to infiltrate those households whom healthy eating is not a priority. maybe it is time for some of the big retailers to spend some of their marketing budget promoting how big a portion is and the benefits to health of consuming at least 5 a day.
